9/25 Charingworth Farmhouse
II
Former farmhouse, now house. Early/mid C17 with C20 porch. Late
C17, C19 extensions. Main body ashlar with artificial stone roof
and flat limestone coping at gable ends. Projecting limestone
stack at right gable end. Limestone gable end stack left. Late
C17 extension: ashlar with roof with large grey slates. C19
extension: coursed squared limestone with tiled roof and brick end
stack. Main body of 2 rooms, with late C17, single-roomed
extension attached right and 2 successive C19 extensions running
forwards from across the junction of the former. Main body: 2
storeys and attic with single dormer from roof with 2-light C20
casement, 2 windows towards right, 2-light, C20 casements with
horizontal glazing bars, one 4-light stone-mullioned window with
stopped hood and king mullion. Stone-mullioned windows in gable
end and at rear also.
Interior: 4-centred, stone arched doorway to Late C17 extension,
now entered from bakehouse with compass-drawn rosette decoration on
right jamb. Interior main body: large fireplace with bressumer
against right wall. Lit by fire window in rear wall, remains of
domed bread oven on right. Large stone fireplace in left room.
Plain stop chamfered beams. Flagstone floors. Bread oven in
bakehouse gable end. Ground floor only inspected.
