The Bield and Rose Garth

GV II

House, now 2 dwellings. Late C17/early C18; raised later; subdivided 1828. Cruck frame encased in sandstone, squared to front, rubble to sides and rear; part brick outshut; pantile roof; brick stacks. Originally 3-cell hearth-passage plan; later outshut. 1½-storey, 4-window front. 4-panel door to end left, under brick, stone and timber gabled porch. Second 4-panel door to right of centre under gabled porch. 2-light, large-
paned horizontal sliding sash to end right, and throughout. All windows have thin timber lintels. Coped gables and shaped kneelers. End and centre stacks. To rear, the blocked door of the hearth-passage is visible to left of outshut. In left gable wall is fire window under thin timber lintel. Interior: in ground floor room to left of The Bield fireplace of chamfered bressumer, speer and post survive. In the centre room on first floor a pair of crucks is visible to the collar beam.
