3/89 Folly tower, 20 metres South of
Stables complex
GV II
Folly tower. Early C19. Local stone coursed rubble; flat roof hidden by parapet. Circular plan, with 4 buttresses added
c1929. 4-stage tower with string courses and battlemented parapets, buttresses battered and curved, with flat offsets:
circular arched doorway on North East side, and a variety of pointed arched openings to all stages; some with
ornamental leaded light windows: iron straps around each level, above string courses, fitted before buttreses. Thought
by owner (March 1983) to be a relic of the estate of an earlier house on the site; part of a large estate with many
good collected items; the main house, of 1881, is of lesser interest and not listed.
