House. Early to mid C17, extended 1782. Timber frame, rendered with some
colourwashed brick casing. Tiled roofs. 6 bay early range, possibly 2 or
more builds with 5 bay lobby entry late C18 block at right angles to
form an L. All 2 storeys. Brick fronted C18 block has central entrance
with a bracketed hood, ground floor 18 pane sashes with segmental heads,
first floor 8:4 pane sashes, all recessed. Plinth, pilaster strips
flanking central bay and at ends. Steeply pitched hipped roof. Large
internal axial stack on rear slope with offsets and panel inscribed 'MH
1782'. To rear ground floor sashes and an entrance, first floor 2 light
casements. Attached to front left is lower early range. 1 bay projects
forward with a gable end early external stack with multiple offsets,
tumbled-in brickwork. Left return has 1,2 and 3 light small pane
casements, small sashes, all flush frames, an entrance with a bracketed
hood to left of centre and an added external stack. Inner elevation of
early range has brick plinth, ground floor weatherboarding, 1,2,3 and 4
light casements and an entrance with a coved hood on trellised supports.
Ridge stack between 2 far bays. Weatherboarded gable to rear. Extending
to rear on same axis a long low weatherboarded outbuilding with a
pantiled roof. Interior: lobby entry straight to stairs with diagonally
set fireplaces to rear in flanking rooms. (Pevsner 1977).
