Late C16. Timber framed with close set studding with plaster infilling. 3 storeys
with cellar. Moulded bressummer below top floor which oversails. 2 casement windows
on top floor small bay on 1st floor, all with modern leaded panes. Large early
C20 shop front with cornice and fascia. Slate roof with gabled ends. Fire insurance
plaque on front 1st floor "Fire and Life". Timber-framed wing at rear of yard
with square plaster-filled panels, said to have been the old banqueting hall, reached
by passage at south side of house with cobbled path and old brick arch, an old
stone doorway into banqueting hall brought from elsewhere. Also rear early C18
brick wing. Interior: moulded ceiling beams in shop and oak post from cellar to
roof. Building said to have been King's Arms Inn before coaching days. RCHM (18).
Market House with all the listed buildings on the east side of High Street form
a good group.
