TENBURY CP MARKET SQUARE (west side) SO 5868 - 5968 8/122 Nos 5 and 6 and 6.10.52 adjoining railings to front (formerly listed as separate items but not including the railings)

Row of houses, now offices. Early C18, altered early C19. Finely jointed handmade brick and plain tiled roof, gable-end parapets with kneelers and three brick ridge stacks. Two storeys and attic; three-course band at first floor and attic level and dentilled eaves cornice. Eleven bays. Windows have gauged flat heads and moulded architraves. There are four 18-pane sashes, three 24-pane sashes and two narrow 12-pane sashes flanking a doorway on the ground floor and ten 18-pane sashes and one 24-pane sash on the first floor. At the southern end of the roof is a skylight. The entrance to No 5 has a Gothick doorcase with groups of three slender columns supporting a moulded flat canopy on corbels and flanking a door of six raised and fielded panels with a transom light. The entrance to No 6 has a porch with a flat roof and moulded eaves supported on groups of four similar slender Gothick columns. There is a door of eight raised and fielded panels within. At the southern end of the facade is a ledged and battened door with a cambered head. Attic lights at gable ends. Interior: No 6 has a central hall with some C17 re-used panelling and a dogleg staircase with moulded handrail, turned balusters, moulded treads and a panelled dado. The lowest newel post is formed of a group of four balusters. Two rooms to the north of the north, one on either main storey, are also panelled. The railings are situated about one yard from the main front and curve at either end to adjoin the end walls. Early C19 cast iron on brick base with moulded ashlar coping. They are about 25 yards long and are interrupted by the main entrance doors. The railings all have shaped finials and the standards have urn finials and are situated at approximately three yard intervals.
