Three cottages and restaurant, formerly post office and stores and originally house. A complex
building of c1394 with stone cellar and 3 bay open hall of Wealden type, timber fireplace
inserted into hall in mid C16 and late C16 crosswing to east. A C17 fireplace was inserted into
open hall, a crosswing added c1700 of which the ground floor was probably a mercer's shop
(now Japonica Cottage) and the building refurbished c1765 by John Holland. C20 shopfront.
Timberframed building, ground floor cement rendered, first floor weatherboarded. Tiled roof
with half-hipped gable at east end. Two storeys; 5 windows. Mainly sashes with 16 panes. Post
Office Cottage of one storey with casement. Rear elevation retains 2 late C16 hollow
chamfered mullioned windows. Interior has stone barrel-vaulted cellar with 2 centred arched
blocked entrance to Scolfes and first floor retains open truss with 'decorated' moulding. The
late C16 croosswing retains ogee bracing. The front framing of the mid C16 timber chimney
survives. Circa 1700 a crosswing of one room on each floor was added to the east with
staggered butt purlin roof. Circa 1765 the C14 and late C16 roofs were replaced.

C18. Two storeys. Five windows. Ground floor faced with cement, above
with weather-boarding. Tiled roof with half-hipped gable at east end. Projection
at west end with a hip. Glazing bars intact, except in the easternmost window-bay
which has casement windows. Modern shop front built out in the centre of
ground floor.
