SO 41 NE MITCHELDEAN ABENHALL

6/145 Butcher monument in churchyard,
about 4m south east of porch,
Church of St. Michael and All Angels


GV II

Short chest tomb: about 1765; stone. Flat lid with moulded
edge: sides raised panelled, scalloped corners containing paterae;
slightly recessed end sections either side, being continuation of
end treatment of monument. Ends have Roman Doric frieze; below
raised panel with moulded edge, above Doric base. All on a cyma-
moulded plinth. To Robert Butcher, died 1765, and his wife died
1767: 2 Gothic letters, copper-plate swirls, and long 'S's'. One
later inscription, differently cut, 1805.
