11/284 Pound Farmhouse

GV II

Farmhouse. Cl7 with later alterations and C19 extensions. Render over timber
frame with C19 rendered brick extensions; gabled C20 interlocking tile roof;
C17 rendered ridge and lateral stacks with diagonally-set flues; C19 brick end
stacks. C17 L-plan house extended at both ends in C19. 2 storeys. Irregular
3-window south-west elevation with mid C20 door and windows. Similar C20 windows
to other elevations except C19 three-light casement to C17 cross-gabled rear wing.
Interior: C17 features include chamfered beams, timber framing and open fireplace
with bressummer. Particularly fine panelled room of c.1700 to south-east (right)
with 2-panelled door, moulded cornice and beams, rare original marbling to
bolection-moulded panelling and chimneypiece and overmantle painting depicting
a landscape with figures and churches (Newham, Westbury and Arlingham on the
banks of the Severn. A very rare and notable example of a complete internal
decorative scheme of the period.
