Tontine Buildings

II

Terrace of 10 houses. Dated 1802. Coursed squared limestone;
Welsh slate hipped roof; four ridge stacks, 2 in red brick, 2
in stone. 2-storey 23-window range. First floor has twelve
2-light timber casements with glazing bars under flat arches
with stone cills and eleven similar blind openings. Ground
floor has 11 similar windows and one blind opening; 10
four-panel doors under flat arches. Central carriage entrance
with elliptical-headed opening with keystone and impost
blocks. Plinth to right end only to accommodate fall of
street; moulded cornice and coped parapet. Oval stone plaque
with moulded stone surround above central first floor window
has inscription TONTINE BUILDINGS 1802. C20 rooflights to
front; early C19 and C20 single-storey lean-to extensions to
rear. INTERIORS not inspected.
