GV II
Walled garden. Probably C19. Red brick in Flemish bond, with rendered coping.
Rectangular plan approximately 70 x 40 metres on east-west axis. The wall on the
north side, formerly the rear wall of greenhouses, is approximately 4 metres high
and has a central entrance through the base of a square 2-stage water tower which
has corner pilasters and round-headed doorway with tile voussoirs; the other walls
are approximately 3 metres high, each ramped down in the centre to a gateway with
square piers surmounted by urns, and ornamental wrought-iron gates. The south
wall also has similar intermediate piers, and a westward continuation approxi-
mately 40 metres long, its north face of flint with brick bands (and furnished
with ledges and holes for rock plants), a central gateway like the others, and a
circular "window" in the centre of each side length.
