Almshouse row. Circa 1912 by Sir Ernest George. Red brick with rusticated quoins.
Plain tiled roof with three panelled stacks to left and right and at right end. 2
gables projecting toward left hand end. Single storey . 10 bays . Arched entrance
with keystones and blocked lower surrounds in 1st, 4th, 5th, 8th, and 9th bays.
Casement windows in 2nd, 3rd, 6th, 7th, and 10th bays.
Whiteley Village was provided by William Whiteley of Whiteleys stores for thrifty
old folk and was laid out on octagonal plan by Frank Atkinson, employing leading
architects of the day.
