C18. 2 storey and attic, part with basement. Brick on projecting rubble
plinth with moulded capping. Moulded stone cornice, and old tile roof. The
left hand part of house is original, later alterations to right hand, but
generally in harmony. Older portion of front, which is a complete design:-
2 segmental headed dormers, with small cornice and key block; 3 windows on
1st floor, 2 windows on ground floor, and tall 6-panel door to right hand
in deep recess with painted stone surround of moulded architrave and carried
under soffit, in an outer rusticated frame with console brackets, modillioned
triglyph entablature, broken over brackets, and moulded open pediment. Semi-circular
fanlight in tympanum with carved wood pattern forming initials S and W interlaced,
with leaf ornament. 2 two-light cellar windows. The remodelling of the older
right wing in mid C19 altered the elevation to 3 storeys with plain brick
gable. 2 windows on 1st and ground floor, glazing bar sashes except 1st floor
to right, one casement to 2nd (attic) floor, stone lintels grooved as brick.
Modern linking bay to stable block. Set back from road with C18 angle rusticated
stone piers with early C19 spear head rails and gate. 3 window older 2 1/2 storey
wing to rear with 3 dormers, altered fenestration on 1st floor and stone mullion
window on ground floor; the door piece is good: stone architrave, relieving
arch with herringbone brick infil and inverted triangle of tumbled brick over.
Some wind braces retained in roof. Interior of main part has flat lozenge
pattern rails to staircase.
