Watchman's cottage for Thames and Severn canal. 1790.
Pebbledashed brick, with limestone dressings to doors and windows.
Originally with inward sloping lead roof. 3 storeys stabling on
ground level. Earth ramp to 1st floor door. Doors and windows
narrow and with pointed arches. All openings blocked. Pebbledash
applied in C20 replacing original rendering.
Interior has fireplace to first floor and stair to top floor within
wall thickness. Chimney. Group value with bridge (q.v.) lock
vestiges and gate pier. (Household, H. Thames and Severn Canal,
1983).
