TM 25 SW
(South side)
2/111
16/3/66 Hasketon Hall
II
House. C16 with C17, C19 and C20 additions and alterations. Timber frame
with colourwashed render and plain tile roof (probably originally
thatched). Two storeys. T-shaped plan, the downstroke being of an earlier
build, the cross-stroke being of two C17 builds. Drive front: projecting
gabled wing at right of centre having some replaced timbers. Close studded
to both floors with tension braces at either side of first floor level.
Close studded gable above. This wall was previously an internal dividing
wall as the cut purlins and traces of red paint to the timber show. The
right flank of this wing has a lean-to with a 4-light C20 window at ground
floor level and to right of this is a 2-storey wing with a flat roof of C20
date, having a stable door to ground floor. Three-light and single-light
windows to the first floor. The left hand flank of the wing has a 4-light
and 2-light ground floor casement and to the first floor a C17 window at
right, with ovolo-moulded mullions, of 5 lights. To left of this are two
2-light C20 casements. To right of the projecting wing is a portion of the
C17 wing mostly masked by the C20 two-storey additions but having a plank
door to the ground floor at far right. To left of the wing is a lean-to
porch in the re-entrant angle of C20 date and a 3-light window to its front
and to the left a C20 plank door with moulded muntins and cross rails. To
left of this is a 3-light C20 ground-floor window and to the first floor at
right is a similar casement and a 3-light C19 window at left. To left
again is a 2-light C17 ovolo-moulded window. To the ridge at left is a T-
shaped chimney stack of 5 flues with a decorated base and cut down at the
top. Left hand gable end: C19 canted bay window to the ground floor of 3
lights to the centre and single lights at either side. To the first floor
is a 3-light C19 casement and to the attic is a 4-light casement with
ovolo-moulded mullions. Bressumer below the gable with ovolo moulding to
the lower edge. Incised semi-circle to the centre. Right hand gable end:
4-light ground floor window, blocked first floor window and below the gable
a double-ovolo-moulded bressumer and run-out end stops. Three-light window
to the gable. Rear: projecting gabled wing to right of centre. The axial
range is of two builds, that at left being slightly higher than that at
right. To the right at ground floor level is a C20 lean-to which partially
masks the lower body of the projecting gabled wing with two ground floor 4-
light windows. To right of this a glazed C20 door. To the first floor a
2-light C19 window. The projecting wing has a 2-light first floor window
and at left is a ground floor lean-to with a 3-light C19 casement and a
slightly projecting lean-to at left of that. To left again are a 2-light
and a single-light ground floor window. To the first floor at left is a 3-
light C19 casement and at right, above the lean-to, a 2-light C20 casement.

Interior: Dining Room: panelling of late C17 with moulded muntins and cross
rails and similar door with arched flutings to the top. Overmantel of
three arched panels with trompe l'oeil effect of perspective. Frieze
running around the room with projecting lozenges and a wooden cornice
above. Sitting room: chamfered wall posts, chamfered ceiling beams, both
with stepped ogee end stops. Close studding to the walls and chamfered
sill beams. Massive hearth with chamfered bressumer. External wall cut
through this century to form sun lounge. To the first floor are jowled
wall posts, close studding to the walls, plank doors and ceiling beams.
One room has decorative plasterwork with rectangular and diamond-shaped
panels with fleurs de lys and poppy motifs. Collars and wind bracing to
the roof.
