GV II*

Post windmill, now preserved and in the care of the Department of
the Environment. Late C18 with considerable C19 modernisation;
restored 1957-60, the buck being completely rebuilt. Painted
brick roundhouse, timber framed and weatherboarded buck, 4
patent sails and fantail mounted above the external steps. The
roundhouse and buck each have 3 floors. The internal machinery
is complete and in working order. A particularly fine example of
a post mill and an outstanding local landmark. Scheduled Ancient
Monument (County No.63). Wailes, Saxtead Green Mill, HMSO, 1972.
