House. c1840. Ham Hill stone ashlar, stepped stone coping,
eaves cornice, and moulded kneelers to slate roof with brick
stacks to gable ends, that to the left is truncated.
Double-depth plan with rear extension. 2 storeys; symmetrical
3-window range. All windows are C20 horned 2/2-pane sashes.
The ground-floor has a segmental arch over a recessed C20
door, flanked by wide segmental-arched recesses containing the
windows, below a platband; the cills span the recesses. Flat
stone arches over first-floor sashes beneath moulded cornice.
INTERIOR: the central passage has stairs leading off it
between the rooms to the left, under an elliptical arch. To
the rear of the main building, now inside, is a Tuscan-style
pillar to a former porch, its pair is removed to the garden.
HISTORY: it is said that this house was once the Valliant
Soldier Inn.
