House pair. 1840's, altered late Cl9. Stock brick, pebble dashed
to No. 46, with rendered base and details. Slate roof. Three
storeys and basement, with horizontally rusticated base and 4 giant
Ionic pilasters to cornice parapet. Central stack. No. 45 (right
hand) with sash on 3rd floor and 2 storey and basement bay, with
cornices at each storey and balustrading. Venetian windows to ground
and first floor with panelling below, and large sash to basement. Two
storey extension to right with 3 storeys behind, with rusticated base,
cornice and parapet with ball finial. One sash on each floor, and
half-glazed door with Art Nouveau glazing and details, with rectangular
fanlight in moulded surround; flight of 7 moulded steps with cast iron
panelled rails. No. 46 (left hand) with 1 sash to left on second and
first floors, and 3 storey bow, with cornices at each storey, with sash
to basement. Half-glazed door with rectangular fanlight to left on
ground floor with steps and simple rails. Part of J.C. Eddel's development
of Vale Square (see item 12/389).
