Cart lodge and granary 27 metres
north-east of Wyatts

GV II

Cart lodge and granary, now workshop, garage and loft. c1700.
Timber-framed, weatherboarded, with infill of painted red
brick in Flemish bond, roofed with C20 red tiles. Rectangular
plan of 2 bays facing SE. To NW abuts on later agricultural
building of no architectural interest. The ground floor
originally formed 2 bays open to the SE, timber-framed and
weatherboarded on the sides and back. The sides have been
infilled with C18/early C19 brickwork, brick piers replacing
the former posts at the S and E corners, but leaving in situ a
post in the middle of each side, and all 3 posts of the rear
wall. The front of the left bay has been closed with C20
brickwork and a window, and in front of it an external wooden
stair to the loft above. Plain vehicle door to right bay, and
plain boarded door to left. Hipped roof. INTERIOR: hardwood
frame, fully jointed and pegged, all of high quality. Primary
straight bracing in rear wall of ground floor, and all walls
of loft. Plain binding and bridging beams; plain joists of
vertical section jointed to them with soffit tenons and
diminished haunches. Loft floor fully boarded.
