Former silk mill converted into cottages, with adjoining public house. Early C19, extended and the public house built, c1840-50. Brick with stone-flagged and Welsh slate roofs. PLAN: former mill fronts Short Street: 2-storeyed to front, 4-storeyed to rear. The upper 2 storeys cottages, the lower rear storeys now part of public house. EXTERIOR: 6-window range, but built in 2 phases, with No.6 a later addition (built as a single phase with public house) to the right. Wide loading door to first floor of No.2, with inserted casement window of 2-lights alongside it. Other first floor and ground-floor windows are casements of 3-lights with flat-arched brick heads. Plank doors with plain brick lintels. Stack on right hand gable of Nos 2 & 4, and front wall stack to No.6. Inserted or altered openings to lower storeys to rear. No.6 forms continuous build with public house: main facade faces Waters Green: a 4-window range with 2 angled returns to E and SE, each a 2-window range. Original doorway to left in architrave with clustered shafts and roll moulding, with cast-iron blind fanlight over. Windows are 4-pane sashes with flat-arched gauged brick heads with key stones all painted over. Added porch to right of centre. Moulded eaves cornice, axial stacks. The mill was possibly originally built as cottages with weaving garret probably occupying the whole of the upper storey, and the complex is of interest as illustrating the changing relationship between domestic and industrial building use characteristic of the silk industry.
