GV II
Barn and byre range. Dated 1784. Coursed squared gritstone, corrugated
asbestos roof. Tall building of 4 bays. Quoins. Cart entrance bay 3 is
set back in an internal porch; segmental arch with keystone inscribed,
'Built / by / WR / 1784'. Byre door right (downhill): quoined jambs. The
walls pierced by 3 rows of round-headed slit vents, each with a single block
lintel. Bulbous kneelers, gable copings. Rear lean-to addition not of
special interest. Left return: byre door right, as front. Roof structure
destroyed by fire c1970 but the building remains an unusual and striking
example of a larger dated barn, possibly reusing C17 masonry (bulbous
kneelers, round-arched vents).
