Thetford mechanics' institute, then public library, now wine
bar. 1887. Gault brick under slate roof. One storey. 5 bays to
Market Place, each bay separated by Tuscan pilasters or
columns of rendered brick. The columns frame the central
half-glazed double-leaf doors under a round arch. 2
round-headed C20 plate-glass windows right and left. Rendered
entablature and parapet. Tall central 3-bay gable with a
recessed panel containing a cartouche flanked by a niche right
and left. Gabled roofs. To right is a 2-bay link attaching to
Guildhall (qv) with a round-headed sash with 6/6 glazing bars
and a round-headed doorway. INTERIOR not inspected.
