Port View House

GV II

House, now divided into flats. Probably late C18/early C19
(possibly earlier core), some C20 alterations. Mixed
construction; side and back walls of stone rubble and front
wall of roughcast timber-framing; brick and stone rubble end
stacks and plastered brick chimneyshafts with old pots; slate
roof.
PLAN: 2 rooms wide and 3 or 4 rooms deep.
EXTERIOR: 4 storeys. 2-window front of replacement horned
sashes without glazing bars, pairs to ground and first floors.
Recessed ground-floor level behind iron columns supporting the
first-floor front. Central front doorway contains original
panelled door. Phoenix insurance plaque on first floor. Stone
steps up right return give access to upper-floor flats through
C20 doors, but most windows here are C19 and include 3/6- and
6/3-pane sashes. Plain eaves to hipped roof.
INTERIOR: Not inspected but likely to be of interest.
