The Market Hall

GV II

Market Hall. c1885. Brick; hipped Welsh slate roof, with
clerestory. Single storey; 4-window range: fixed windows with
glazing bars, in moulded cases under flat arches with
keystones; central entrance: plank double-doors, and
wrought-iron screen to overlight, under brick semi-circular
arch, with pediment over; pilasters; moulded brick eaves;
terracotta ornamentation. Clock-tower, to left, added 1897:
louvred openings; bands; balustrade with finials. Left
returned side: central entrance with screen; 2 lights.
Occupies a prominent position.
