Manor House. Faced with stone rubble with tiled roof having
wide stacks. C16 altered in C18. The east and north wings were
probably built by the Pound family in the C16. The west wing
was added in the early C18 by Sir Robert Worsley of
Appuldurcombe who is said to have lived here while
Appuldurcombe was being rebuilt. T-shaped building. 2 storeys
and attics. 7 windows. C19 casements. Projecting gable end
with kneelers. Early C18 right hand doorcase with moulded
architrave and keystone. Double door with 3 panels each. Deep
plinth. Right side elevation has sashes with keystones. Rear
elevation has 6 window openings with some original C17
mullioned windows. Interior has Great Hall with 4 centred
stone fireplace with keystone. Spine beam with 4 inch chamfer
and lambs tongue stop. Dining Room has fielded panelling and
lobby has early C18 fielded panelling with dado rail. One of
the original Domesday manors.
