Terrace of 3 houses. c1792. Possibly by William Paty. Brick,
some stucco, with limestone dressings, party wall stacks and
pantile hipped mansard roof. Double-depth plan. Mid Georgian
style. Each of 3 storeys, basement and attic; 3-window range.
Handed pair and a half, with pilasters to a frieze, cornice
and parapet, coped party walls; outer doorways have pilasters
and imposts, consoles to keyed semicircular arches, fanlights
and 6-panel doors; cambered heads with 3 stepped voussoirs to
6/6-pane sashes, smaller on the second floor. Canted bays and
semicircular-arched stair windows to the rear. INTERIOR not
inspected, but reported as being largely the same as No.52
Kingsdown Parade (qv).
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: wrought-iron front area railings and
gates with urn finials curve up Pennant steps to the
entrances; attached wall and pier to the left of No.86 has a
wrought-iron finial.
Part of a unified terrace with Nos 56-78 Kingsdown Parade,
with which it is connected: interupted by No.80 which has a
slightly different facade and is listed separately. Planned as
part of a uniform development with Nos 48-52 Kingsdown Parade
(qv) by James Weekes and Charles Lockier, to a design similar
to contemporary ones by William Paty. The plots were sold to
separate builders, and interior details completed by the
clients.
No.86 was listed 20.07.90.
