Description

LYNTON AND LYNMOUTH

SS7149 MARS HILL, Lynmouth
858-1/4/78 (West side)
19/07/50 No.2
Rising Sun Hotel (part)
(Formerly Listed as:
LYNTON
MARS HILL
No.2
The Old Cottage)

GV II

House at end of row. Mid to late C18. Rendered, slate-hung
left gable, concrete tile roof.
3 storeys; 3-window range, all 2-light wood casements with a
horizontal bar, but at ground floor with small panes. Central
C20 door in a 'rustic' gabled porch. The rusticated quoins
referred to in the previous list have been removed. The left
gable has 2 openings to a balcony above a C20 extension. Both
gable stacks have been cropped to ridge level. The right
gable, standing well above the adjoining No.3 (qv) because of
the slope in the site, has a small 2-light casement at
second-floor level.
INTERIOR, partly inspected, revealed nothing of special
interest.
Formerly a separate house, this now (1993) forms part of the
Rising Sun Hotel (qv), and is a prominent part of the street
scene.
