House and shop, now office and flat. Late C14 or, perhaps,
early C15. Timber-framed with brick infill and pantiled roof.
Rare parallel hall plan, jettied front and rear. 2 storeys and
attic Pedestrian passage to rear set to left via C19 surround.
Mid C19 shopfront with central door. First floor with close
studding of heavy scantling with 2 large arched braces right
and left. Between braces are two 4-light mullioned windows,
with C20 glazing. Gabled roof with C20 dormer. Passage to rear
has knuckle braces at entrance, repeated in centre. Studs and
tension braces to north side. Ground floor rear rendered.
First floor with heavy scantling close studs and 2 heavy
arched braces to centre. One renewed 3-light mullioned window
to right. INTERIOR. Ground floor with heavy bridging beam
running north-south, with mortice for arched brace at south.
Corresponding mortice to north very close to C17 inserted
brick stack. Heavy studwork. Front wall plate has 3 sets of
rebates for shop arcade shutters, and peg holes for studs
between them. Remainder of interior not accessible at time of
Review but likely to be of considerable interest.
