Row of 5 mid C15 shops, now 3 premises, Nos 6, 8-12 and 14. Original plan was of a small ground-floor room to street with an unheated solar or chamber above. Stacks are later additions. Altered C20. Timber-framed with brick, rendered and colourwashed. C19 plaintiles to front and to rear of No.14, otherwise rear slopes are C20 concrete corrugated tiles. 2 storeys. C20 shopfronts. Jettied first floor. No.6 has a top-hung imitation sash to first floor, Nos 8-12 and 14 with 3 sashes each to this floor. Continuous gabled roof. Early C18 ridge stack at division between Nos 8-12 and 14, and in centre of roof to No.14. Most of rear taken up by a 2-storey mid C20 brick extension, but part of original wall remains to rear of No.14, showing a C16 skin of brick with many patches and repairs. One blocked window with ovolo-moulded timber mullions. INTERIOR. Much altered and opened-out. First floor to Nos 8-12 with studs of thin scantling marking original partitions and extent of shop. Straight corner braces to principal studs. 3 chamfered tie beams remain. No.14 also opened-out. At east end of ground floor are 2 blocked 4-centred brick arches reminiscent of a shop arcade, suggesting, a) that there were no buildings immediately east in C15 and, b) that the gable walls were brick. Studs to first floor define 3 original rooms, probably individual chambers over separate shops. Roof of rectangular section crown posts with braces to tie beams. Arched braces to crown purlin, which is removed for most of its extent. Where it remains it has mortices for stud partitions. Many renewed collars and rafters. Roof extends over entire range.
