Early C18. Four square section piers of rusticated stone ashlar
on plinth and with entablature having on south side, mid C18
frieze decorated with festoons, drops and paterae. Moulded
cornice and shallow pyramidal finials. Early C18 gates of
wrought iron surmounted by scrolls, arabesques and full
achievements of Montagu coat of arms. Two inner piers linked to
outer piers by wall of coursed and dressed stone with moulded
cornice and parapet. Moulded architraves to openings for side
gates. The gates and piers were probably originally at the east
entrance to the Park in Park Lane and removed to their present
location in c.1763-66.
