Description

SW 97 NE ST MINVER
HIGHLANDS
4/265 Outbuildings 5-10m to east and
- south east of Treglines and wall
to north east
GV II
Two ranges of outbuildings now used as store with curtain wall to north. 1810
(datestone). Stone rubble with ashlar stone on north gable end. Dressed stone
quoins and brick segmental arches to openings. Bitumen coated rag and scantle slate
roofs with gable ends.
Two ranges of outbuildings enclosing courtyard to east and south of Treglines (qv).
The east range, which is rectangular in plan comprised stables, coachhouse and
shippon on ground floor with loft above used as Quaker Meeting House and by Tax
Collector. The south range, which joins at right angles, comprised a service range
with dairy on left (east) and wash house on right (west) with a passage running
through the range to provide rear access.
East wing; two storeys regular three window-front with brick segmental arches to
openings. Openings to stables and shippon on ground floor with wide entrance to
carriage house to right of centre. Three early C19 16-pane hornless sashes in first
floor. Right hand (north) gable end faced with ashlar stone; stone rubble steps up
to entrance to loft with dressed stone arch and blocked rounded above.
South wing; two storeys with central round brick arch with datestone of 1810 above.
Flanked by segmental arched openings to service rooms on ground floor and blocked
window openings above.
Interior: in the east wing, the walls of the north room of the loft are lined with
brick.
Low stone rubble wall encloses courtyard on north west of Treglines.
A Quaker meeting house was erected 1/3 of mile to south east of Treglines farm in
circa 1690 (qv Friend's Burial Ground). By the mid C19 it had fallen into disrepair
and by 1879 Maclean recorded that it had been demolished. The outbuilding at
Treglines therefore appears to have been used by the Quakers in place of the original
meeting house.
