House, divided into 2 houses. Circa 1835, divided into 2 houses in late
C20. Stuccoed, probably stone rubble, painted ashlar plinth; slate hung
at the back. Asbestos slate hipped roof with black glazed ridge tiles.
Tuncated stacks.
Plan: Double depth plan with 2 principal front rooms and a central
entrance passage leading to a straight staircase at the back. The shallow
service rooms behind the front rooms may be a later C19 addition. In the
late C20 the house was divided into 2 dwellings, the right hand partition
of the entrance passage was removd and a doorway was formed at the left
hand end of the front into the newly formed right hand house (Higher Dart).
Exterior: 2 storeys and blasement. Symmetrical 3-window south front. All
original C19 12-pane sashes. Central doorway with original C19 6-panel
door, the bottom 2 panels flush and reeded; rectangular overlight with
diamond patterned glazing bars; 3 steps up to the doorway have limestone
treads and there is a C19 cast-iron boot-scraper to the left set into the
wall. The late C20 panelled door to the left of the front into the second
house (Higher Dart). The hatch into the cellar to the right of the front
has a C20 plank door.
The right hanbd end has stuccoed quoins and a C20 12-pane sash on the first
floor.
The rear elevation is slate-hung and has C19 sashes with margin panes.
Interior: Only the interior of Dart Cottage to the right, was inspected.
It has the original C19 straight staircase with stuck balusters, turned
column newel and a moulded hand rail and the fireplace in the right hand
room has its original simple C19 moulded chimneypiece.
