Description

BRENDON LEEFORD
SS 74 NE
(Part in Countisbury)
4/7 Leeford Bridge (that part in
- Brendon CP)
GV II
Bridge. Probably C18, parapet raised probably in the mid to late C19. Coursed
rubblestone. Single segmental arch with voussoirs. Parapet with rubble copings and
curved retaining walls to north abutment. The bridge probably formerly had more of
a humped-back but the northern approach was eased at some time, probably in the C19,
and the parapet at that end was raised (see differing masonry). The bridge carries
the Brendon - Countisbury road over the East Lyn River, the south bank of which
forms the parish boundary at this point (see boundary stone set in west parapet).
