Description

SOUTHOLT PARK ROAD
TM 16 NE
4/62 Barn 60m north of Park
Farmhouse
- II
Barn. Late C16. Timber framed, mainly weatherboarded, the west gable end and
part of the north side plastered. Roof clad in corrugated asbestos. 5 bays,
with a central cart entrance; boarded cart doors to south, porch to north. A
good quality intact frame with a middle rail all round; reverse-curved braces
halved against the outside of the studs. Tie beam braces replaced by knees.
The bay at the west end was originally floored over and used as stables: there
is evidence for diamond-mullioned windows at the upper level. Roof has
clasped and butt purlins with curved wind braces in some of the bays. Later
straight wind braces have been nailed across the rafters.
Farmhouse not listed.
