Combe Hill House

G.V. II

Gothick country villa. Dated 179-. Ashlar with slate roofs concealed behind an
embattled parapet; ashlar stacks. Irregular plan with curved east elevation;
2 storeys on a raised plinth and cellar. The south elevation of 3 bays is
dominated by a full height canted bay at the right; 3 windows with glazing bars,
sashes to first floor, the ground floor centre window has a Gothick fanlight.
Set back to the right of the projecting bay is a single bay section with a French
window on the ground floor and a glazing bar sash window above. To the left of
the bay is the set back entrance front of 2 bays; glazing bar sash windows and
panelled door to right under a pediment on brackets; a small gable, the end of a
rear wing, breaks through the parapet. The east elevation begins at the south
with a full height segmental bow of 3 glazing bar sash windows. The remainder of
east elevation is set on an inward radius forming a concave plan; 5 windows on
ground floor and 3 on first, all glazing bar sashes; the centre windows of the
bow and of the main front have round heads and Gothick glazing; cill band under
first floor and moulded cornice over.
