Incorrectly shows as Leeds Gate on OS map. Public house and inn.
C16 hall with C17 parlour block and early C18 additions to former
lower end, with extensive C19 and C20 alterations. Red brick,
partly in English bond otherwise in Flemish bond, partly white
painted, pantile roof, some having raised brick coped gables,
tumbled to the early C18 range. Additive H plan. Single ridge,
projecting wall and wall stacks. 2 storey with garret, 6 bay
front with 2 brick gable bands to early C18 left hand bay, 3
separate gables to end pairs of bays. Central planked C19 door
with segmental brick head and reset C16 carved shield over, with
to left a C20 2 light window in the blocking of a doorway, with
to left 2 C20 French doors. To right a C20 door is covered by a
contemporary gabled brick porch. Beyond is an early C19
tripartite glazing bar sash. To first floor are 3 glazing bar
sashes, and in the garret a fixed glazing bar light. All
openings have segmental brick heads. In the roof a raking dormer
with glazing bar light with brick cheeks. To left hand gable a
wrought iron hoop reputedly held a torch to guide travellers over
the Wildmore and Armtree Fens. In the right hand eaves a fire
insurance plaque "Royal Co." On the gable to the rear a large
wooden boss in the form of a man's head. Interior retains
chamfered beams with ogee stops.
