Variously dated 1775-6 or 1739. Built by William Downe, who also built Downe's
Street (1792-5). Ashlar. 3 storeys. Balustrade. North (modern entrance)
front 3 bay. Centre breaks forward with curved sides, and has 2 storey Tuscan
frontispiece on rusticated ground floor. Double doors with fielded panelling
and semi-circular fanlight in concave niche with triple keystone.
South front 5 bay, with central 3 bay Ionic frontispiece raised on rusticated
basement . Oculus in tympanum. Semi-circular porch with Tuscan pilasters.
Sashes with glazing bars. Iron balconies on 1st floor. 1 storey flanking
wings with balustrades and round-arched sashes with glazing bars.
Interior completely remodelled in Early C20, using some old panelling. 2
late C18 marble chimney pieces with good classical scenes sculpted in relief
on central dies. 1 magnificent Italian C16 ch1mneypiece.
