The Gatehouse
GV II

House. Late C17, raised and altered in C19 and C20. Timber
framed with plastered brick infil. Welsh slate roof. Ridge and
left-hand end stacks. Originally a 3-unit plan, the right-hand
unit rebuilt in C19. 2 storeys. Front: 3-window range; 3-light
casements under segment heads throughout. Cogged brick eaves
cornice. Right-hand section with lower roof line; wagon
entrance (with double planked doors) and door under segment
head. Left return with framing exposed: large panels with
curved angle braces; queen posts, and V-struts above collar.
Interior: other trusses survive, but ties cut through; ceiling
beams and winder stair. Despite alterations this remains a
fairly intact example of a C17 vernacular farmhouse.
