GATCOMBE

II

Water mill. Early to mid C19. Built of greensand stone rubble
with red brick dressings, slate roof to left hand side and
roof covering replaced with corrugated iron sheeting to right
hand side. 2 builds. 1 to 2 storeys. Right hand part of 2
storeys. Right side 4 light cambered casement on ground and
1st floor. Left side has cambered casements to ground floor
but 1st floor has C20 windows. Left side doorcase with wooden
architrave with 6 flush panelled door, the top 2 panels
glazed, and iron door knocker. Right side cambered architrave
with plank door. Right side elevation has casement windows and
mid C19 lean to porch of brick with slate roof and 4 plank
Dutch door with iron hinges. Left side 1 storey portion has
cambered doorcase with plank door and 2 casements. Iron mill
wheel to rear. Interior retains iron spur wheel with wooden
teeth.
