Public house. Dated 1901. Brick with painted ashlar ground
floor and faience and ashlar dressings. Welsh slate roof with
brick chimneys and stone or stone composition dressings.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys, 3x3 windows. Bar front has 3 elliptical
moulded faience arches on rusticated jambs, central arch open
with internal steps up to canted doors in half-glazed screen.
Flanking arches have panelled stallrisers to windows with
transom and 3 arched lights. Pilasters of Composite order
flanking arches rise through full-width fascia and have
segmental finials. Fascia has low relief GRAND HOTEL in side
panels and elaborate emblem in centre with date 1901. Low
relief dragons in spandrels of arches. Segmental-headed
2-light windows above, paired in central bay under
half-timbered gable with 2-light casement. Right canted corner
bay has blocked double doors below leafy carved bracket to
round corner turret. Turret tapered, with mullioned windows
below half-timbered top stage with low-pitched ogee dome and
tall spike finial. Steeply pitched roof has swept eaves,
dormer set at left with straight head and casements with
glazing bars, and corniced ridge and rear chimneys. Right
return in similar style.
