Barn, later C16. Large 7-bay aisled barn facing E, with 2 bay
early C19 open-fronted implemented shed attached at SE. Timber
frame on brick sill, weatherboarded under steep corrugated iron
roofs, all painted black. Implement shed faces N, has boarded
rear stud wall along lane and 2-bay open front with curved knee
braces from posts to wall plate. Barn has half-hipped roof,
double doors under sloping roofs rising above eaves of aisles, in
E and W sides in 3rd bay from S and in E side in 6th bay from S.
High double doors in roof of nave, under separate sloping roof,
each side of main double doors on W side. High square door in S
end. Brick plinth in English bond with spurs out to carry oak
sill supporting arcade posts inside, and framed partition between
wallpost and arcade post in each bay. Tapered jowled posts, long
slightly curved braces to tie beams. Straight braces to arcade
plate. Clasped purlin collar roof with angled queen struts to
principal rafters. Surviving buildings of Sweetdews Farm shown
on Tithe Map of 1839, farmhouse subsequently demolished. A
landmark in the open countryside.
