C18 refronting of earlier timber framed house, once an inn. Brown red brick with
red brick quoins, dressings and flat arches. Old tiled roof behind parapet with
moulded brick coping. Large brick chimney on right. Two storeys, first floor
band, cement plinth. Three double hung sash windows in reveals to both floors,
6-panelled door to left, 2 panels flush in panelled reveals and surround of
Roman Doric pilasters carrying entablature and pediment. Smaller half glazed
door on right (No 31) with glazing bars and pedimented hood. Brick rear wing
with stone inscribed 1807 TD (Tyrwhitt Drake). Has two double-hung sash windows
to first floor, ground floor altered. This wing continues into a timber framed
structure with brick infill, old tiled roof, partly No 33A (Weller House). East
front has modern openings and dormers, west elevation to garden of No 35
unaltered.
Rear elevation of main house of three rendered gables, the left hand one over
carriageway of No 29 (q.v.). First floor has exposed timber framing with brick
infill. Three casements and one sash window, lean-to additions to ground floor.
Timber framing exposed in gable walls.
Interior: No 33 front ground floor room on left has chamfered ceiling beams,
rear room has C18 corner cupboard with arched head, shaped shelves. Reset C17
panelling in first floor front room, C18 panelling and moulded cornice in first
floor of rear wing.
