Circa 1830/40 villa enlarged mid C19 and later. Two storeys stucco faced.
Low pitch hipped slate roof with lean-to slate roof added over built out
front. Three windows on first floor, recessed, sash, glazing bars intact.
Ground floor projects in very large lead roofed bay of five lights to
front with glazing bars and large fixed side windows also with glazing
bars, and a two storey wing has also been added to the West. North
garden front to Bellevue Road qv: has frieze, cornice and parapet
returned on side walls. The centre of the facade projects slightly
and the Western way has one window on this front.
Three windows to main block: superimposed bays of 3 lights each to the
East, sash, glazing bars, plain strips, cornice over the first floor one
and in the centre of the ground floor bay a French window. The Western
windows (including wing) are recessed, sash, with glazing bars on first
floor, the one on the main block having an architrave surround, and block
consoles to the sill. French windows to ground floor. In the centre of
the first floor is an original French window with marginal glazing bars,
architrave surround and pediment on scrolled consoles. It gives on to the
roof of a rather crude Ionic porch with free standing columns and a small
pediment in the centre of the entablature to the front. Recessed panelled
and stained glass door set in architrave surround. The house was used
by Queen Victoria's retinue on one of her earliest visits to the Island.
