44/25 Tanyard House and Stores

II

House. c1450 with mid C17 cross-wing, altered externally in C19. Timber-frame,
underbuilt in brick to ground floor and tile-hung above. Tile roof. Three bays
to main house, wing one bay wide and two deep, and of two storeys. Large-pane
C19 sashes. Brick porch with gable and bargeboards, inscribed HB (for Hercules
Brabazon). Similar bargeboards to cross-wing. Tall shop front of c1900. Brick
stack in line with porch. Inside jetty of C15 (facing north) is preserved within
the first bay, and moulded dais beam of hall in the next bay, which was originally
open. One unglazed, diagonal mullion window survives on first floor of eastern
wall. The cross-wing was always floored and retains a good deal of small framing,
including the partition between the bays.
