Formerly farmhouse, later 3 mill workers' cottages, now a house: C16
or earlier, early C17 alterations, extensions to either end late C18
and some C20 alterations. Washed brick, thatched roof and 1 brick
chimney. L-shaped plan developed from gable-entry house. 1½-storey,
8-bay south front. Left end bay projects forward under gable with C20
2-light wooden casement with glazing bars. 5 similar windows in
remainder and 2 framed and boarded doors. Above are 2 smaller 2-light
casements swept over by the thatch.
Interior: Core of house has 2 pairs of full crucks of poor scantling,
1 with collar, 1 with collar and king post. 4-centred head to
original door which opens against heck post and screen (now opened
out). Heavy firebeams and inserted floor has a chamfered ceiling beam
with fillet and tongue stops on inserted posts, and wide joists some
chamfered. Extensions to either end have re-used timberwork in roof
and ceilings.
