House, now hotel. Early C18 and c.1800. Brown brick, rendered on front elevation,
with slate roof. Rear wing with red brick and plain tiled roof. C18, or earlier,
building, fronted by much larger C19 block. Entrance Front: 3 storeys and basement
with single storey flanking wings, the ground floor channelled with plat band.
Moulded cornice to parapet with mansard roof and stacks to end left and end right.
Five 6 paned glazing bar sashes on second floor, 5 full size glazing bar sashes
on first floor, and 4 sashes on ground floor with 3 sashes to left and 2 to right
in wings. Central door of 6 raised and fielded panels with semi-circular fanlight
and panelled surround with open pediment on attached columns with palmate capitals.
Flight of 4 steps. Basement opening to bottom right. Rear elevation: 2 storeys
and attic with hipped roof and 1 flat dormer. Obscured by later additions.
Interior: some timbering in rear wing. Marble fireplaces, frieze of urns and
acanthus in reception rooms, and elliptically arched screens to stairs are all
that remains of early C19 interiors.
