GV II

House. Front dated 16 R A S 96. Ashlar with Cotswold stone roofs, ashlar
chimney with moulded architraves, bull-nose cills and moulded eaves
cornice. 2 storeys and attic. 2 gabled dormers. 2 windows, early C18
glazing-bar sashes; right-hand bay amended: on 1st floor a narrow single-
light window whose cill does not line up, on ground floor a simple
architrave and staff-mould door surround off-centre. Late C20 cast-iron
grille to throughpassage, date-stone over. L-plan with cross-wing to rear
courtyard, mullioned windows, the gabled wing is timber-framed. Interior:
flagged through-passage, the ground floor east room has restored raised
and fielded panelling and (?C20) bolection fireplace; said to have
contemporary staircase but not inspected. The reference to the rear wing
having been a Quaker Meeting House may be erroneous; perhaps induced by
the present of the Masonic Lodge next door to east (q.v.).
