LOWER HEYFORD FREEHOLD STREET SP42SE (South Side) 5/60 No.86 GV II

Cottage. C18 and C20. Coursed limestone rubble with wooden lintels; thatch roof with brick gable stick. Single-unit plan. 2 storeys. 2-window front has 2-light casements at first floor, and at ground floor has 2 larger renewed casements plus, to extreme right, the doorway in a C20 porch. The middle opening is probably the original doorway. Left gable wall bears the stack and is partly obscured by a single-storey C20 extension. Interior: Bedroom ceilings are partly the plastered underside of the thatch. One of a group of similar thatched cottages at the upper end of Freehold Street (q.v. Nos.80, 93 and 105).
