Colville Primary School

School. Opened June 1879. E R Robson. Yellow brick, red dressings, stone coping to
gables. Tiled roof, steeply pitched. Three storeys including half-dormers. Range of
classrooms on principal front, hall and staircases to rear. Twelve windows wide.
Outer pairs of bays set slightly forward, topped by gables. Thin red horizontal bands
to ground floor, forming rustication. First floor windows set in blind arcade, with
brick pilasters between and carved brick aprons beneath most windows. Four gabled
dormers to second floor, containing round headed windows, square windows between
dormers, possibly inserted. Other windows square headed. Brick dentil cornice above
first floor. Sashed windows with small panes and glazing bars. Decorative stone
plaques to end bays in gables and below. Tall chimneys. Returns to right and left
with similar treatment and entrances. Area railings. Opened by the London School
Board as Buckingham Terrace School.
