4/218 Caervallack Lodge and gate piers
-
II
Lodge to the Trelowarren estate including gatepiers at north east, driveway now
blocked. Rebuilt circa late C19. Mixed rubble brought to coarse, dressed granite
quoins, jambstones, sills, archstones and lintels. Hipped scantle slate roof with
brick chimney over middle.
Rectangular plan of 3 rooms plus stair, baffle entry 2 rooms deep at left hand side
with parlour in front, pantry behind and kitchen right with dog leg stair behind.
2 storeys. Symmetrical 3 windows north front overlooking former carriageway. Central
pointed arched doorway with original ledged door and small pointed arched window
opening over with Y-tracery window. The other windows are in taller rectangular
openings and have 4-pane 2-light casements. Flagged path in front.
Interior is little altered since built.
The granite gate piers are rounded headed and square on plan.
This Lodge, as originally built, was thatched and possibly similar to The Lodge qv.
at Gweek, Mawgan-in-Meneage parish. Some of the stone of the present Caervallack
lodge is probably reused from the original lodge.
